1 QUITO – MINDO – PULULAHUA - CALACALI
DAY
01.- Leave from your hotel al 08h00. Drive
westwards from Quito towards the coast, over the
Andes using the old road Quito-Mindo until 3100
m of altitude.
At this point, we switch to our mountain bikes
and start the descent towards the cloud forest
located on the West slope of volcano Pichincha
until we reach the cross roads to Mindo (2000
m of altitude) This is a 35 Km bike ride on a
dead road, void of traffic. |

On
our way back to Quito we stop for a 40-minute-hike
among verdant forest.
We intern ourselves in the cloud forest to visit
a water fall.
We return to our 4-wheel drive jeep and continue
on the Calacalí-La Independiencia road
towards Quito. This is a very scenic loop enjoying
the views. The landscape is diverse with patchwork
fields of lush vegetation and the high sierra
plains. We stop for a visit to the rim of crater
Pululahua. Before we reach Quito, we pass the
monument to the Mitad del Mundo. |

GTB. 2 QUITO – COTOPAXI –
CHIMBORAZO
| DAY
01.- Leave from your hotel at 08h00. Drive
by jeep for 1 ½ hours from Quito along the
Pan-American Highway south to Cotopaxi National
Park. Cotopaxi (19,000 feet) is one of the most
beautiful active volcanoes in Ecuador and the whole
of South America. We will have several hours to
explore this outstanding area of natural beauty
by bike. By jeep we drive up to the parking lot
(14,500 feet). From there, we commence the spectacular
down hill bike ride, descending a total of 6000
feet until we arrive at the Pan-American Highway
where the first leg of the cycling trip ends. Subsequent
drive south on Pan-Highway. Overnight on the slopes
of Chimborazo. |

DAY 02.- Drive to Chimborazo
(6310) the highest mountain of Ecuador. Arrive at first
refuge. WE ascend on the foot to second refuge at 5000m.
. Amazing bike ride through paramo landscape. Vicunas
are the sole inhabitants of these wild stretches.

GTB. 3 QUITO – COTOPAXI –
QUILOTOA CHUGCHILIAN – SIGCHOS - LASSO
DAY 01.- Drive by jeep for
1 ½ hours from Quito along the Pan-American Highway
south to Cotopaxi National Park. Cotopaxi (19,000 feet)
is one of the most beautiful active volcanoes in Ecuador
and the whole of South America. We will have several
hours to explore this outstanding area of natural beauty
by bike. By jeep we drive up to the parking lot (14,500
feet). From there, we commence the spectacular down
hill bike ride, descending a total of 6000 feet until
we arrive at the Pan-American Highway where the first
leg of the cycling trip ends. We then ascend by jeep
in a northwest direction into the
western Cordillera arriving at Quilotoa to spend the
night. The night's retreat is a cozy inn, with an impressive
look at the Crater Lake. (L, D)
DAY 02.- This day, we start
with an early hike down to the deep jade colored Quilotoa
Crater Lake. The hike downhill to the Laguna takes about
30 minutes and about twice as long to climb back up.
But, you can hire a mule or donkey for about US$2-3
to carry you back to the top, where your breakfast will
be awaiting you to charge your batteries for this day's
adventure! After breakfast we descend on mountain bikes
to Zumbahua. Many years ago, an earthquake destroyed
this area. The land has transformed into a rugged formation
resembling what you might imagine as terrain from another
planet. Lunch is a picnic at a location where we have
the opportunity to intermingle with the Quechua Indians
or test your artistic skills with the locals painting
landscapes of the area. Lodging in Black Sheep inn.
Day 03.- After the breakfast,
we downhill bike ride begins down a long and winding
road all the way back to Sigchos and lasso where the
cycle trip ends. We then return by jeep to Quito. (B,L)
